VCWoman Achieve Mentor Spotlight | Brooke Vines
We are so excited to introduce you to an ongoing series where we celebrate the success and achievements of the amazing members of Woman Achieve. Meet Brooke Vines one of our mentors!
The Venture Center: What inspired you to participate in this program?
Brooke Vines:
I always wanted a mentor myself and never found one, however that’s not what inspired me to participate. First of all, I can’t tell Mimi San Pedro no, nor do I want to. If its valuable enough for her to invest her time into something, then I tend to find the same value. Furthermore, I was mostly curious about what kind of businesses the market is driving. These entrepreneurs are coming up with concepts that are fresh and new, they aren’t simply starting businesses that exist already. I feel like I’m being mentored by them sometimes.
What value has the mentorship program brought to you both personally and professionally?
The seminars being offered are incredibly helpful, even to veteran business owners. VC is keeping the content relevant and fresh. Some of it is a refresher course, but I always walk out of there with at least one or two actionable insights.
What growth have you seen in both your mentee and yourself throughout this program?
My mentee’s business is exploding, its incredible to watch and I wish I could take more credit. If anything, I can offer them connections and affirmation, but they are doing just fine. Personally I have found that helping them organize their business is a good discipline for me. Helping others helps you work through your own issues and look at your own business to make sure you are practicing and not just preaching best practices. I’ve definitely had light bulb moments coaching them.
What advice would you give to those interested in applying for this program?
My advice is there is never a “Good Time” for giving back. Time is our most valued asset, this doesn’t take much of it. They spread it out over the year. I’m getting a lot more out of it than what I’m putting into it, its worth the investment. Don’t doubt yourself and the knowledge you have as an owner, even if you think you only know your industry. These founders just need someone to walk the journey with them, your presence alone is valuable and you know more than you think.
